GRITC ‘10 Presenter Preview Ver. 3.0

Gary and Liz, two of our School Improvement Facilitators, will be presenting at this year's GRTIC.
One of the most exciting projects that I have been working with this year has the potential to revolutionize how we deliver remediation and instruction in our classrooms. Two of our School Improvement Facilitators have working on creating math remediation and instruction videos for students who are having trouble understanding concepts that are tested on the ARMT. Gary and Liz have been working on the project after seeing some of what Jeff Rhodus, one of our other GRTIC presenters, had done for his class for math remediation and instruction.
Using a program called Camtasia, Gary and Liz are able to record entire lessons that students can watch at any time. After they record the lessons we upload them to Moodle so that teachers can use them with their students. We currently have a class for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade with a goal of completing classes all the way down to the 3rd grade. All of the videos are based off the state standards for Math and are organized as such within the Moodle class. By using this set up teachers that have identified where students are having trouble can direct them to the appropriate video.
The videos can be used for whole class instruction as well. Sometimes teachers may not be as comfortable with a particular topic or maybe they have switched from teaching a lower grade to a higher grade and just need some assistance with the new material. Whether their used as whole class or remediation these video stand to make a real impact on student learning.
At the conference this summer Gary and Liz will be showing teachers how to find and sign up for the Moodle class that stores the videos as well as how use them in class. In addition they will be teaching a second class in how to Use Camtasia to create your own videos for your class.
