Work Smarter…Not Harder!

Reconstruction

March 3rd, 2011 by Nicole Godbold

Imagine that you are living in Alabama shortly after the Reconstruction. It has been 10 months since your father moved the family to another area of the state. He started a new job as a factory worker, hoping to improve the quality of your family’s life and your finances. You had to leave your grandparents, your friends, and the farm where you grew up.

Write a letter to your fourth grade cousin in another state telling him or her how your life has changed. Be very specific!

Hey,Richard it has been great so far,but there is a lot of bulying you wouldn’t like it here. When ever I try to sit by a black person they would go sit in the back of the bus.I think its because of thsos Jim Crow Laws that we learned in history before I moved. So, try send me a letter soon.
    sincerly,

All I have that’s the closest thing to a friend is the hogs and sheep. My Dad is always working, and my Mom is either make food, walking the dogs, sleeping, or babysitting the neighbor’s baby. Dear,Christopher
It has been 10 months sense we’ve moved here. It’s been tough living here. My father is working at a factory thinking it will help us. I hope he is right and we didn’t just move here for no stinking reason. And it looks like African Americans are still not being treted as equal citizens.
And I also see a lot of carpetbaggers out their working also. And fourth grade is going alright. I hope fourth grade is going well for you. See you later

    From,Brock

    Dear,Harris
It has been changing alot around here oh and did I metion that moved to Alabama, and my dad got a job as a factory worker.Where I moved they treat African Americans horrible I know that not many people where I used to live and where I live now dont care but I do!They dont let African Americans use the same restrooms, water fountains, restaurants, swimming pools, playgrounds and libraries as white people and I bet there are many more things they seperate African Americans and whites from. Also now Birmingham is one of the fist major cities YAY!!! so to sum that up African Americans are being treated the same. Now lets start talkin about me fourth grade is going fine getting good grades as always. So there was alot of reconstruction in alabama, and thats all thanks for listen cuz

    please write back Madi
