A Day in the Life of a Gifted Education Class

Project Jubilee

September 18th, 2012 by thomas

For the last two weeks in Project Jubilee we have discussed quite a bit of things. These things include, the brain, Henri Matisse, and Math Center. The brain is a very interesting subject. I am looking forward to learning all the scientific terms and locations of different parts of the brain. Did you know that the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body and that the left side controls the right side? Moving on to Henri Matisse. Henri Matisse is one of the many great artists. He is extremely famous for “painting with scissors”. Painting with scissors means cutting pieces of construction paper and pasting it to another sheet of paper to create a picture. Matisse painted with scissors because when he was in his twenty’s he became sick and unable to paint anymore. Math Center is a variety of activities in which you play during Math Center period. Math Center includes, tangrams, pentominos, pattern blocks, and geoboards. These are some brain busting activities that take skill to complete. These are only a few of the many subjects we will be discussing this school year. Oh! I almost forgot to tell who my teacher was. My teacher is Mrs.Heald.

I’m having a good time at PJ our most recent projects involves Live Binders a new site on the internet that allows you to go on there and post information about any subject. Mrs. Heald assigned us two projects on Live Binders. One project involves posting a subject about medieval times; the other involves posting information about the Australian subject you choose. When we are not on Live Binders we are usually doing a Zen tangle a new thing that Mrs. Heald taught us it involves drawing cool designs, and no! It is not doodling. And that is what we are doing in PJ this is Dylan sighing out

PJ Rocks!

February 2nd, 2012 by Jordan C

Project Jubilee has been really fun lately. We have done Shakespear, optical illusions, and weaving!!! We are going on a field trip to see Shakespear’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Trojan Hall next week. Today, we finished up our coat of arms, worked on some optical illusions, and talked about Shakespear. We hope Mrs.Heald will allow us to start up class dojo again. For those who don’t remeber class dojo, it is everyone has a little avatar that looks like a monster. From then on Mrs.Heald can give our little monsters points for good behavior or, she could deduct points for negative behavior. Also, we are doing little projects with a different topic for each person. My topic is Leis Ericson and the war of the roses. We are allowed to show our facts with a video or a audio podcast. I think I will get a LiveBinder to store my information. We could also get a Prezi but, I prefer a LiveBinder. That’s all I have to say today!! Bye!!!!

Last week in project jubilee we learned about Australia. We are going to do a presentation on a subject about Australia, like The Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Kangaroos, etc. I’m doing mine on Sydney. We also did our other project which we will do on podcasts. A podcast is like a presentation but you don’t see anything you hear about the subject. It is on medieval times like knights, guilds, castles, or important people during that time. We are also about to start CSI. It is crime solving on the crime scene. We have tried logic puzzles just like we will do when we start.

Project Jubilee

January 11th, 2012 by Kara

Hi, I’m Kara and in Project Jubilee last week we worked on our coat of arms. We only have a few more people that are finishing. We also did chess with notations. We learned how many points each piece meant except the king, which is priceless. We have received all the information for the BIG Project Jubilee field trip to Atlanta, Georgia. My friends and I are so excite for this field trip. We also need old t-shirts donated for an art project we are doing with the loom to make a rug for the classroom. Project Jubilee is fun.

Project Jubilee has been way awesome! I am in the Wednsday and Thursday classes. We are learning about jazz and all the students got assigned a jazz musician, mine was Cab Calloway. The class is going to make a slideshow with our information of the jazz musician. We also have been learning alot about art,Like the principles and elements.we have been getting alot into Dale Chihuly the glass artist. He does crazy things with glass. He makse it swirly and spikey. All his art work stands out from the rest sometimes literally. Our class all started on these fish made out of 2 liter bottles. We haven’t gotten very far though. One of the other things we are doing is optical illusions. Some things we have done is a wavy hand made out of a million lines. It gives the impression that a hand is in all those lines. Another thing we did in optical illusions was floating  bars. It is long widening bars  coming from a certain view point on a paper. The bars are coloured too. There is also a field trip coming up to the Dolphin Island Sea Lab. I am really excited!

Hi I am jack in Project Jubilee we have been learning about optical illusions. They have to be looked at closely. Also we have learning about Dale Chihuly, a top notch glass blower. I have written a paper on Art Tatum who is arguably the best jazz pianist that ever lived. Optical illusions to me were the best. Another thing we did was paint crabs on tar paper for the victims of the tornado in Tuscaloosa.

September 20th, 2011 by abby

Today in project jubilee we have been learning about optical illusions such as a picture of just snakes curled up into a circle shape but if you stare at it for a long time it looks like there spinning there very cool. Here is a website were you can find some cool ones http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/illusion/illusions.htm including the snake one. We are also learning about the history of jazz which started all the way back to the 1700s and has continued up until present day. Also we have to get as many who, what, when, where questions about a certain jazz musician, like mine is Charlie Parker. We had a great day today in project jubilee. Hope you liked my first project jubilee post for 6th grade!

Today in Project Jubilee

September 20th, 2011 by mary katherine

Hi, my name is Mary Katherine and today in project jubilee we are doing a hand optical illusion and I am close to finishing it. My colors are a mint color and a blue. We are about to start a new one and it has blocks in it and it is almost like you are falling in it. We are also starting moodle. It is a website where it will help you with all of your subjects. We are also doing a jazz project where we had to choose a person (mine was Miles Davis) and we have to tell why he started to play jazz, what instrument we played, etc.
